DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. What are your impressions about the book of James? Describe one of your main takeaways from this Sunday’s sermon?

  2. In this week’s message, we took time to learn more about James, the brother of Jesus.

How does he describe himself? (James 1:1)

Why do you think James didn’t introduce himself as the brother of Jesus?

  3. What can we learn about the story of James from where he appears elsewhere in Scripture?

    (Passages referenced: Matthew 13:54-55; John 2:1-12; Matthew 12:46; Mark 3:20-21, 31; Luke 8:21; John 7:5; Acts 1:14; 1Corinthians 15:5-7; James 1:1)

What stands out to you about the story of James? Does his story change how you read the book of James?

  4. Russell suggested that James offers practical wisdom on how to live out our faith.

Is there a specific area of your life where you are being challenged to live out your faith by walking in obedience? Are you willing to share that with your group?
